I can see what you're saying. In all honesty when you look at the jobs that came out at the same time as it (SAM, NIN) DRG was really nerfed from the get go.
I believe it is the fact that it is very seldom tampered with because they fear it becoming more of a powerhouse then SAM. SAM, although a fantastic job, seems to be SE's favorite choice as far as direct DD, when it failed to be seen as a tank.
I would honestly have liked to have seen more abilities commanding the wyvern. Even jobs like SMN and PUP are able to give basic commands to their pets. It can't be because SMN is considered a 'weak' job either because we all know it is the most dangerous magical DD in exsistance.
They designed DRG "safe" so that it cannot do anything better than BST or DRK which are its two most "line" correspondant jobs as far as task similarity goes. It really fries me to think of how stupidly good and overpowered Dancer is, but when you think back to the implementation of DRG and every so-called buff since then, you still have a sub-par job they didn't ever want to add into the game and didn't give it anything that could risk it twisting the balance. It took them all the way until the 2h update and the Penta *buff* to give Dragoon the niche of outstanding DD in winged camps, and even that is a small consolation when you consider how useless and ultimately worthless we are in HNM and boss battles of any importance whatsoever.
We get Dragon Killer and Ancient Circle and are the last job you want fighting Wyrms. heh
I would have to agree. Dragoon seems to be a very under-minded job in Square Enix's eyes. While the tweaks over the years have both harmed and helped the class, the fact of the matter is it has been left caught between status of solo job and DD but not able to full extend completely into either.
While I wouldn't say the job is a complete disaster, it is not a job that anyone can pick up and play on a whim. To understand dragoon's greatness is to fully spread out and reach all boundaries of the job. Once you have been able to adapt to the style of play you are needed to and switch between to accomodate the situation, that is where a dragoon truly shines. I am still learning everyday I play, hoping to become better then I was the day before.
I am amazed you have dragonsbane: congratulations! That is truly impressive. ^^ I am a bit behind in the expansions so I figure by the end of next year I should be working on getting something like that! *^^*;;
Drakesbane is a lot stiffer than Penta Thrust, but I have a horrendous amount of STR on WS. I would have thought it'd come out just about even but it absolutely outdoes the old standard, so now I have a new WS to spam whenever I roll out DRG. With Angon and a simple mage sub I've been cranking out 1300-1900 damage on difficult enemies without fail.
Dragoon's design is very poor. I have a lot of theories about what was going on in Square's design office when they put Dragoon into the game. If you look closely at the way the job is designed you can see where it is missing parts and incomplete, as if they ripped things out of the job before putting it into the game. My theory is that they never wanted to plate it for FFXI but the corporate heads forced them to, so they turned out the safest, most non-threatening (weak) job they could so as not to upset the careful balance of jobs they really wanted in the game, and ever since DRG has occupied a spot in which no changes made to it will effect the game in any way.
No problem. ^^ I too am a Dragoon fanatic. Best job in Final Fantasy XI if you ask me!
One of my goals on my server is to change the reputation that DRG has, especially in endgame. I am the senior dragoon of my endgame, along with my friend Dathus who is my friend and mentor (but a main red mage! He is a drg at heart though).
I am always willing to try out new gear/armor/strats and use them to my advantage. I often run BCNM 40s as a team of 2 DRG/WHM and 1 DRG/BLU. I have a full gear swap between TP/WS/SOLO and are potentially adding to my collection, even if I wont use it. Between COR and DRG my box is full ^^;
Thank you for the compliment about the art! It is is not mine really, it is drawn by a dear friend of mine from Ragnarok server named Petisu, but she is a DRG fan and loves to draw Akhail for me, to which I am very honored.
I always love talking with fellow dragoons because they always bring something new to the plate. The game is not meant to be played the same way and every other DRG I've met has taught me something. ^^ Feel free to chat with me anytime!
Rock on!
Actually, while I love Dragoon, I think it is a very flawed job. I am an advocate of Dragoon love and awareness of its talents, however I continue to insist that it could be improved to a standard level that other jobs enjoy.
Wow, the artwork on this page is fantastic. I am a Dragoon fanatic and would love to chat about the job if you got the time. I have Drakesbane and some other interesting things and I've done a lot with the job and I'm always eager to chat about what DRG can do. If ya wanna jaw, that is. :D
Yeah, I was there for about a week, maybe 2 after wtt split. I was almost to sea with like 5 others. I'm hoping they are willing to run through it again for me lol. I'm on the sacrarium. I'm seeing all the members in thier shiny new afv2 gear. I'm jealous :)
I honestly have to say I missed you guys. Didn't think I would lol. And now that I've made myself look like an ass , I'll go away lol.
P.S. trabbian still owes me money... and wilsner still owes me umm... well, he owes me money too... I'm sure of it.
