RPG god-modders
Posted On 10/27/2007 13:19:00

Now, I'm a big fan of Dungeons & Dragons, so i join plenty of campaigns, but there's this one person who I join the occasional campaign with, named Chris, who is a complusive god-modder.

Every campaign he starts off or participates in (we have a problem with making them last), he makes himself some crazy race with all sorts of bonuses and whatnot that we just don't need. For example, in one memorable camapign, he was a Half-fiend catfolk person with vamperic bloodline. Holy crap. He was going to do more, but the DM wouldn't let him.

In another campaign he just started, he decided to be a were-tiger. Now, the other people who played in his campaigns, My brother, a friend, and myself, were sick of his constant god-modding. So, we decided to go ahead and come up with a solution filled with humerous irony.

Anit-god-mod team, Go! *anime opening sequence start* we decided to go against his were-tiger by being completely useless were-animals ourselves. My friend, Morgan, decided to be a half-orc were-platypus, my brother decided to be a elf were-ostrich, and I decided to be a gnome were-squirrel. Yup, completely uselss.

Now, there's a funny story behind my brother deciding to be an elf. Morgan, she hates elves with a passion. particularly legolas. so My brother decided to be an elf with the description, "whatever makes morgan angry."

I dont remember the names for Chris and my brother's characters, but my characters name is captain Burke, and morgan's name is Khan. so whenever she messes up or I need her, I shall shout, "KHAAAAAAAAN!"

For classes, My brother is a bard. He usually is a fighter of some sort, but he wanted to try some sort of caster. Morgan is the Barbarian. She always does that, it's just her thing. Chris is a cleric. He always does that, both out of nessecity and it's his thing. I am a psion, which makes me equivilant to our party's combat caster, even though usually I am a rouge. I also came up with the new were-squirrel catch phrase, "things are about to get NUTS."

Over all it looks to be a fun campaign, and hopefully will make Chris think twice about god-modding in the future(actually, i dubt that, he'll do it anyways.)

you know what bothers me?

You know what the biggest annoyance is to me?

Backseat driving.

In particular, back seat gaming. you know what? you think you can do it better, go do it yourself, but on your own frakkin' time, not mine. This is the main reason i avoid doing single player between rounds at LAN parties, because there are always a dozen ready people saying,"no get the sniper" and "Quick, stick a grenade to him." it realllllly get on your nerves after 3 minutes. You Know, there's always the pleasure i look for in games of figuring it out for myself, not having some jerk thoughtlessly blurt it out.

The one place that should avoid backseat driving at all costs is puzzles. yet oddly enough, this is where the most backseat driving seems to happen. for example, in LOZWW there are so many great puzzles that are so easily ruined by backseat gaming. If you ask someone for help, that's one thing, but some one just walking into the room and saying, "oh, that goes there" is another thing. seriously, just do it later. if you enjoy solving puzzles, the other person might enjoy them too, so don't spoil the fun for them! and in a game like FFXI, help from a linkshell is fine. a friend in real life saying which job you ought to level now might be different from what mood your in.

So, to all you back seat drivers out there, kindly stop, and if can't do that, kindly go crawl in a sound proof windoless room, where you can backseat drive all you like.
