So there is a whole lot going on in the world right now. Kosovo has declared its independance from Serbia. The US, UK, France and Italy are backing them, (is Spain?) Russia is very much against the this, Putin has stated that he will not recognize them as a nation. China also has voiced it concerns over the seperation of Kosovo from Serbia. This has been called an illegal action. One side of the arguement is that Kosovo is under the jurisdiction of Serbia and should not be allowed to seperate, instead the nation should be aided in settling its differences internally while remaining whole. The other side appears to be that the systematic disenfrancisement of the citizens of Kosovo has gone on for too long and this seperation was inevitable.
All of this in the wake of the uproar over the US desire to build a nuclear missle defense system west of Russia to intercept potential missles from Iran. As well as the announcement by the United States that we will be shooting down one of our failed spy sat's launched in 2006 I believe.
Then today Castro has announced he will be resigning. We live in a very interesting time these days where the world is changing extremely quickly.
The amount of change that occurs in my opinion is accelerated by the speed with which people can access inforamtion about ideas and occurances in other parts of the worlds. I can see that the results of the next American and Russian presidential elections will be very crucial and it will be more important than ever to research the candidates using good sources of information (chain letters don't count) then to go out and vote for who you think is best.
I'm curious on peoples opinions of events abroad though. I would like to avoid a discussion of United States domestic politics if possible. What else is on the horizon? Are we approaching another Cold War arms race? Will we be able to avoid one?
