Trying to find a new book to read
Posted On February 05, 2008 08:15 PM by rayne

I happen to be an avid book devourer. I don't read the printed word, I tend to suck it up like a sponge. Lately I've completed a re-reading of the entire Dune saga from the beginning of Dune by Frank Herbert to the last book of Sandworms of Dune. And I've re-read all of the Harry Potter series, the Green Rider series, heck I even slogged my way through Anne Rice's contraption called the Vampire Cronicles. ...

Then I saw a commercial for a new "crime drama" show called Dexter about a guy who is a serial killer of serial killers.... that made me go hrm.... I know I have that book. I was right I do have that book. Looks like the TV execs couldn't find anything on their own so they decided to borrow from the book called "Predators". Only thing is the guys name isn't Dexter it's David. Heck Dexter isn't even one of his assumed names. So I'm currently re-reading this book only to find that I will most definately not be watching this "new" TV show. There is nothing to keep me entertained since I already know how it will end. Oh sure they will probably throw in a few new plot twists or actually develop some new serial killers to be hunted down...

So now I need to find yet another book to read... or rather something that might cause me a moment of "I don't remember this" if it's a book to be re-read.

I can't go thru reading Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series again until I know for certain if there were ever enough notes created or left for a ghost writer to finish the series and have an actual publishing/shipping date. Weis/Hickman is a little stale now since I've only been reading their works since forever.

I'm contemplating Elminster but even then I'm not exactly thrilled. Sherlock Holmes is done and that is actually the first bunch I dove into when the reading bug hit. So I'll probably finish this book sometime today and be searching for something else to devour by tomorrow. Anyone have any suggestions?

After a little more research, I found the book Dexter (the TV show) is based off of ... its called Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay.  The first page sucks but i'm about half way through the book atm and its ok.  Apparently he has a sequel too so we'll see how good it is.  :)

Thanks. ^.^ I decided to pull out F. Paul Wilson's Implant and see if it can hold my attention. If it can't I may just try Douglas Adams or Frederick Pohl...

I've read 2 books in my life (of my own volition) and they were The Magic Cottage by James Herbert and O-Zone by Paul Theroux.  I found both of those to be pretty good. I'd re-read them. I just dont have a whole lot of ... um, time? no. Will? yea.  I used to read RL stories and report on them for a living so I'm quite done with reading.  Anywho. I totally appreciate you writing down that the show Dexter came from a book called Predators ... because, I saw this show on my 'free netfilx shows' the other day and I immediately latched on.

I'm currently writing a book about a predator who goes after predators and I asked the bookstore if they knew of any other books like that and they were completely clueless.  I figured it wasn't a new idea.  It was neat to see that its written from the predators point of view though. Mine isn't.

Anyway, good luck with your quest to find new books.  I have friend who is an avid reader so I'll ask him what he's reading now and post. :)

I have all of his stuff and I've read most of them to the point that my hard bound books are falling apart. ^.^

Stephen King lost any appeal at all for me after Tommyknockers and It. I've tried Dean Koontz but I couldn't really get into him either.
