Okay, first FFXI blog from me, so I hope it comes out okay.
Finally hit 69RDM a few weeks ago (Woot me) had a RDM testimony from hunting a coffer key for a WAR friend and some stuff from Ruby Quadav. So yay me I decide to go fight Maat.... Why did I do that? he stomped me pretty quick. Fast forward to two days ago. I decide to farm anpther testimony from Ruby went as rdm/whm and spent like 6 hours farming and the only thing that dropped was a ruby (woot for gil) decided yesterday (9/5/08) to try again. This time I went rdm/lolgimpythf testimony dropped off first kill 
why didn't I do that in the first place. Anyway i figured I may be in good standing to *attempt* him again. Spent almost 100k in prep: vile elixer, hi-potions +3, yag drinks, and some new toys (read empowering mantle, and some earring, but no Moldavite Earring which is next on my list btw).
Went to BCNM ate food and rested. Entered BC and di my buffs and the normal stuff. Ran to arena and sleep2 Maat.... It sticks woohoo! (first time sleep kept resisting with one under enf cap) anyway got Maat to roughly 50%(ish) hp and he chainspells me (Holy yikes) thankfully blink and stoneskin absorb aero while i sleep him (thankfully again it sticks) so I let him sleep for eabit and didnt see anything that said his chainspel wear off. He wakes up and keeps goin. FINALLY his wears off and he Asuran Fists me long story short: I pwnd him to no avail on my second shot.
Moral of the story: If you hit 69 as RDM and nned a testimony, do two things: 1)Farm Ruby Quadav solo with /thf and 2) Cap your skills while you farm testimonies. Maat isn't as scary as people make him out to be
