FFXI, travel, reading Sci-fi, movies

I like everything from art films to sci-fi to romantic comedies to gross-out horror. I don't really have a favorite, but I suppose if I had to pick one movie to take with me to a desert island, it would probably be Dances With Wolves. Or maybe any of the X-Men flicks.

I grew up in the 80's, so I'll always like my New Wave (Depeche Mode, B-52's, Pretenders, The Smiths). I like just about anything, but I can't stand hip-hop. It's just too angry. I just don't get it.

I read all the Harry Potter books because I'm a kid at heart. I also like Anne Rice's vampire novels, Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City, the Dragonlance novels (by Weiss & Hickman, not the hacks). I also like some of the classics, like Catcher in the Rye, and especially The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner. You should definitely pick it up if you didn't read it in high school/college. It's a very tough read, but worth it. You have to take your time and think about it. Faulkner doesn't just tell the story, he makes you analyze it.
I wish I had more time for reading, but it's hard with real life, and FFXI.

People who don't mind taking time off from whatever they're doing to help a defenseless WHM with missions & quests that involve killing a tough mob. Mission 5-2 anyone?

Beggars, people who sell their stuff on the AH at a loss so it will sell faster, rude people, and homophobes. Not necessarily in that order.

I'm a gay gamer. If that bothers you, don't worry. In-game flirting/dating creeps me out. Besides, I'm taken. I live in Honolulu with my partner of 6 years, who brought me into the game. He's pretty much quit playing, but I make him sign on once in a while for events and stuff.
I try to keep real life and in-game life separate. I'd rather FFXI people knew me as Gorby the Hume from San d'Oria; not Mike the gay guy from Honolulu. That said, I welcome friendly chat anytime, either in-game or here. I'm always willing to help out if I can, so don't be shy.
